Bixby the Chinchilla

Bixby – our clinic chinchilla!

Chinchillas are rodents that are native to the Andes Mountains, and they are best known for their luxurious fur – approximately 70 hairs can come from each follicle! Bixby eats mostly hay, but loves the occasional almond sliver or blueberry. He makes several types of squeaks and chirps, and is most active in the morning and evening. He often naps during the afternoon, even in the middle of a busy clinic! We adopted him from the Dumb Friends League when he was 8m old, and we are working with socialization and clicker training to help him be a great ambassador for this amazing and playful species!
